Car Park Information

The carpark at MDMC (located at the corner of Shrewsbury Road and Clive Road) is a useful resource, and we want to be helpful to others.  We want to be helpful to Church premises users, the AmDrams, parents, carers and the nearby schools, and people attending MDMC events, many of whom are attending activities for children or the elderly and frail who are in greater danger if they had further to walk.

The following is included for your information:

  • The MDMC carpark is private land, not a public facility and not a public right of way. There are signs facing the carpark explaining that it is a private carpark and that vehicles and contents are left at the owners’ risk. The signs facing the road include contact information for the church.
  • MDMC is funded by its members, not by the Government, the Church of England or the Methodist Church nationally. Resurfacing costs for the carpark are currently estimated at over £35,000.00.
  • We are happy for the carpark to be used for the school run as agreed with the two local schools on the proviso that parents and carers park elsewhere when there is a funeral, or other events when a large number of people are expected. This is well observed.
  • There is no agreement for neighbours to use the carpark as at busy times the cars parks use the restricted spaces and may get blocked in. In the past we have had problems parking wedding cars and funeral hearses because cars have been parked in the way. At times people have been blocked in which has caused inconvenience.
  • In order to prevent the car park becoming a public right of way we lock the gates for a 24 hour period at least once a year. Gates can be locked without prior notice, though any requirement for events or closures are posted on the Church wall.
  • We do not want our carpark to become a locked facility; this would cause havoc for the school run and would cause difficulties for others. Nor do we want to have formal parking control.
  • For us to be helpful to the community there needs to be sensible cooperation between all concerned. In the most part this happens.  If we do not have contact information we may leave a reminder note on the windscreen.
  • Please help us to help others in our community.
